Philippians 3:12–21

SUMMARY:

In Philippians 3:12–21, Paul acknowledges that he has not yet attained perfection but presses forward, striving toward the goal of knowing Christ fully and receiving the heavenly prize promised by God. He encourages believers to adopt this mindset of perseverance, focusing on their eternal citizenship in heaven rather than earthly distractions.

Paul contrasts the faithful pursuit of Christ with the ways of those who are "enemies of the cross," whose minds are set on earthly things and whose destiny is destruction. Instead, he reminds Christians that their hope is in Jesus, who will transform their earthly bodies to be like His glorious body when He returns. This passage calls believers to live with purpose, persistence, and an eternal perspective.

Proverbs 4:20-27

SUMMARY:

Solomon urges believers to pay close attention to God’s wisdom, as His words bring life and healing. He emphasizes that everything flows from the heart, making it essential to guard it diligently against corrupt influences. Solomon warns against careless speech, encourages believers to stay focused on righteousness, and calls for intentional choices that lead away from sin. This passage teaches that our thoughts, words, and actions are shaped by what we allow into our hearts, making it crucial to protect them with God’s truth and wisdom.

Acts 15:1-35

SUMMARY:

In Acts 15:1-35, a major dispute arose in the early church when some Jewish Christians insisted that Gentiles must follow Jewish laws (circumcision) to be saved. Paul and Barnabas traveled to Jerusalem, where the apostles and elders, including Peter and James, met to resolve the issue. They concluded that salvation comes by grace through faith in Jesus, not by following the law, and decided that Gentile believers should not be burdened with unnecessary rules but should abstain from idolatry, sexual immorality, and certain dietary practices to maintain unity. The church rejoiced at this decision, which upheld the gospel of grace and preserved church unity

1 Samuel 17: 1-58

SUMMARY:

While King Saul and his soldiers were paralyzed by fear, David trusted God, stepped forward with only a sling and five stones, and defeated Goliath with a single shot. His courage came from faith, not strength, showing us that fear distances us from God, but faith brings victory.

REVIEW:

God sees you. Even when the crowd is small.

“But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him… But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.” —Luke 5:15-16

“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10

We must be good stewards of the small opportunities for God to trust us with the big ones.

REVIEW Luke 3:1-22

John preached a baptism of repentance... turning away from sin and preparing for God's arrival. When Jesus was baptized, heaven opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and God spoke: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
Baptism isn’t just a religious tradition... it's a powerful declaration that we are God's, that we are starting a new life with Him, and that we trust His plan for us.

REVIEW Ephesians 6:10–18

Paul is writing to the church in Ephesus… a culture full of idols, magic, and pagan influence. He wants Christians to understand that their real enemy isn’t other people… it’s spiritual forces of evil working behind the scenes. Instead of fighting with fists or arguments, we’re called to stand firm by putting on God’s armor… truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word.

In a world flooded with media and noise, Paul’s words remind us: What we feed our minds shapes our souls. Movies, music, TikTok, YouTube… These things influence our beliefs, emotions, and spiritual posture.

REVIEW Psalm 51

Psalm 51 is written by King David after he’s confronted by the prophet Nathan about his sin with Bathsheba. David had committed adultery, orchestrated a murder, and tried to hide it. But when he’s called out, he doesn’t make excuses. He falls to his knees in repentance.
This psalm is raw. It’s a confession, but it’s also a plea for renewal. In a culture today where people hide behind filters, isolate due to shame, and struggle with anxiety and self-worth… Psalm 51 shows us the power of honesty, healing, and starting fresh.

REVIEW Jeremiah 17:7–8

Tonight’s study is simple and powerful. We’re talking about trusting God, not just believing He exists, but trusting that He’s actively involved in our lives—even when we don’t understand what He’s doing.
We’re diving into what it means to truly believe that God is planting us with purpose, growing us through hard seasons, and sustaining us even when we feel like we’re withering.
This is for anyone who’s ever wondered:
“Why is this happening?”
“Why here, God?”
“Can I really trust You with everything?”

REVIEW 1 Timothy Chapter 4

The Apostle Paul is writing to Timothy, a young leader guiding a new church in Ephesus. Timothy feels inexperienced and overlooked because of his age, but Paul reminds him—and us—that influence comes from character and faith, not years lived.
Scripture 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” — (NIV)

Paul urges Timothy to live boldly for Christ despite his youth. He reminds him that believers of all ages are called to lead by example. For young adults, this means showing the world Christ’s love through words, actions, and lifestyle—in class, at work, online, and in relationships

Joshua Chapter 7:1-26

REVIEW:
Joshua 4: The Memorial Stones

The Israelites are crossing the Jordan about to go into the Promise Land. This was a place of trust. They had to trust God with everything they had because the challenges were only getting bigger but so were the blessings.

➤ Trusting God with everything
➤ Remembering how God has stepped into our circumstances in the past
➤ Following His will step by step

Joshua 6: The Fall of Jericho

➤ Word was getting around about what God was doing for the Israelites
➤ Joshua and the Israelites had to follow God’s instructions completely. They were to surrender to Gods will no matter how weird. (ie. Blowing ram horns, circle the city over and over for 7 days)

🅠 Has God ever asked you to do something you thought was weird or uncomfortable?

🅠 Have you ever encountered opposition or mocking because of what God asked you to do. (ex. Maybe a friend/family member thought you were crazy for wanting to go on a mission trip.)

➤ The Israelites were only to take what God asked, they were not to touch the “devoted things”

REVIEW Joshua 6-7

➤ Following God’s instructions completely
➤ Lean not on your own understanding/strength but seek God in every area of your life
➤ Faith and obedience are essential to our walk with God
➤ Sin affects every area of our lives and separates us from God

READ: Chapter 8:1-35 (and/or listen to Audible™ Pure Voice NIV Bible chapter 195)

The book of Joshua is all about choices and consequences and how when we make decisions without God, everything can end in chaos, but with God we have blessings and victory.

Week 1 Jan 8th 2022 Ecclesiastes 1:1-11

Ecclesiastes 1:1-11 >> Click Here For Study Sheet

SUMMARY:

Solomon questions the purpose of life.

1:2- “Everything is meaningless/futile/vanity”

MEANINGLESS: Having no significance or purpose or reason

FUTILITY: Incapable of producing any useful result, pointless, no matter how hard you work at something, nothing good will happen.

VANITY: 1. The quality of being worthless 2. Excessive pride in or admiration of one’s own appearance or achievements

Living life by earthly perspective or goals (Seeing things by human standards)
A sad outlook on life to live w/o God (How can life be important w/o God?)

Solomon began to realize the following points throughout his search for meaning

Life cannot be just about gathering things
Being wise can be a curse because you realize that life is nothing or has no meaning
Having this knowledge can bring about sadness.

Many times we seek our own achievements w/o God, but then expect spiritual intervention and can become angry and even blame God, asking God this question, “what did I do to deserve this ______ type of trial.

Week 2 Jan 22nd 2022 Ecclesiastes 1:12 to 2:26

Ecclesiastes 1:12 to 2:26 >> Click Here For Study Sheet

SUMMARY:

Solomon identifies 3 vanities of life. Pursuit of Wisdom, Self-indulgence (personal pleasure), and Labor

Solomon realizes that the search for wisdom has led to frustration because both the wise and the fool experience the same fate.

There is a song titled: “Cemetery” by a band called “Coin”

“Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery”
In the song, even though the man had everything it could not keep him from ending up next to someone who had nothing. Our fates are sealed, we will all die some day.

BUT: HOW WE CHOSE TO LIVE WHILE WE’RE HERE MATTERS TO GOD.

The song speaks of being wealthy in the cemetery versus being poor. Abundance versus poverty.

We’ve been both, wealthy is better.
God wants us all to have abundance and to be happy.
Ask yourself why are we drawn to happiness, drawn to beauty, drawn to light?

SUMMARY:

In chapters three to six, the teacher tells us that there is a time for everything and that all of us will endure the same fate of death. We are told to enjoy the simple pleasures of life as gifts from God while we can because the wicked, just like the righteous, and even the animals will one day die. Life is unfair, but God will see that justice is done. Evil is everywhere, but God is good, and humanity's story isn’t over. Even though things seem futile, it is better to work and eat than to starve. It is not wrong to have money, but it is wrong to love it, to consider the material more important than the spiritual. In the end, the number of outfits in your closet won't matter. Pursue what your soul needs to be truly satisfied.

FOLLY or foolishness refers to someone who lacks the proper fear or respect for God. He or she is therefore prone to go in the wrong direction in life.

Dec 11th, 2021: Luke 15:1-32

Luke 15:1-32 >> Click To Access Study Guide

SUMMARY:

Luke 15 is about lost and found. Jesus tells three parables dealing with lost items.

Schools, businesses, and churches all usually have a designated area called “Lost and Found.” People lose things all the time. They lose phones, keys, coats, and basically anything else that they have the ability to put down somewhere.

Nobody intentionally tries to lose something. Normally, when something is lost, it causes a lot of stress and frustration.

We serve a God who doesn’t just have a “come and experience” mentality; he actively pursues those who don’t know Him. The Pharisees listening to Jesus were very content with where they were in their relationship with God and saw no need to pursue the lost.

All Christians not only have the responsibility but the privilege of seeking the lost, whether it is friends, co-workers, or family.
